Lieutenant Colonel Jon Roy Sloan has over thirty years of active military service—including two combat deployments to Iraq—and over twenty-five years in higher education. As a serving officer in the Tennessee Army National Guard, he leads with battlefield-honed discipline, strategic clarity, and unbreakable resolve—skills he now deploys to coach high-performers through life’s defining moments.
A graduate of Lipscomb University (BA, History) and the University of Memphis (MA, History), Jon Roy has served for twelve years as Chief Communications Officer at NationsUniversity, expanding global access to faith-based education while mentoring emerging leaders. Mission trips to Kenya, Malta, India, and Nepal have deepened his grasp of resilience and purpose under pressure, informing every coaching session with hard-won wisdom.
For over ten years at their church, Jon Roy and his wife, Maria, have co-facilitated GriefShare support groups, walking alongside hundreds as they rebuild after loss. This frontline experience in emotional healing sharpens his ability to guide clients through grief, transition, and renewal with compassion and precision. They came to GriefShare in 2014 when their oldest child, Anastasia, was killed in a car wreck. She was 23 years old at the time.
Jon Roy and Maria have been married for over 35 years. Parents to three children and former foster parent to two children, Jon Roy lives what he teaches: leadership begins at home.
